About the Mural

Rotary Clubs in Oakland Unite for Peace

The Embrace by Hueman

The Rotary clubs of Oakland, Oakland #3, Oakland Uptown, and Piedmont-Montclair, joined forces in the creation of a peace mural with the focus on celebrating Oakland’s strength in diversity and the desire for an inclusive community.

What started off as a story from a member of Oakland Uptown Rotary led to three clubs connecting during a time of social distancing. This collaboration resulted in a stunning art piece with the added component of augmented reality. What makes this project special is it was done by people of action and it is the physical commitment of working towards building peace within the community.

About The Muralist

Allison Torneros, known in the art world as “Hueman”, is a multidisciplinary artist based in Oakland, CA. Her distinctly gauzy art style is what she likes to call “etherealism”, a blend of ethereal realism. Whether she is creating delicate visions on canvas, or crushing massive walls with a spray can, she often draws on the human condition to create colorful mash-ups of the abstract and figurative.
